New Online Community : Citizendium

Dearest netpreneur friends,

you might've known that information is a huge thing for online business. Most of the products being sold online (and those which hit the best-sellers) are information products. Therefore, it is important for us to have a credible and reputable source of information. One of them is Wikipedia. I'm sure you're already familiar with Wikipedia.

Now, we have another source called Citizendium, a "citizens' compendium of everything," is an open wiki project aimed at creating an enormous, free, and reliable encyclopedia. This project was started by a founder of Wikipedia (first announced last September 15) and aimed to improve on the Wikipedia model by adding " gentle expert oversight" and requiring contributors to use their real names.

The goal of this project is to capture humanity's multivarious understanding of reality, and thereby to paint a maximally broad and detailed portrait of our universe. It is hoped that it will grow to hundreds of thousands of articles within a few years, and millions a few years after that. Moreover, this project is also meant to create a new sort of online community.

Dear netpreneur friends,

I would like to start this article with a question. What’s your motivation in doing an internet marketing business? I’m sure most of you can answer that question instantly. Yet the answers may vary for each person.

Now, let me share mine. The reason I was willing to be involved in IM is because of the time flexibility. My “real world” duty as a young doctor should come first. I was first introduced to IM by my dad. He already attended many seminars on IM and had spent a lot of money to learn IM as well. He asked me to help him.

At first, I was reluctant. I’ve already determined that I should focus on my medical clerkship, graduate as a general practitioner with good grades, so I can continue my study afterwards and be a specialist. The only thing that made me agree to IM was because this business can be managed whenever I have the spare time to do it. It is not demanding. I can do it in my own pace. If that’s the matter, then it’s OK.

During the process, an opportunity came and I rose up to the offer. Things progressed, something came up and it annoyed me very much. It takes a lot for me to be able to attend offline events. I’m still doing it because I’m committed to my so-called Smart Team and willing to work toward success. Although, it’s the only day of the week that I’ll be able to take a day off and spend time with my family, I still try to manage. I could just spend the time with my family or have a review on my study, but I still choose to attend the events instead (unless there’s more important event I should attend, like family gathering).

In my opinion, that’s already a big sacrifice on my side. So, after I did all the efforts, if someone starts to question my commitment, then it really get into my nerves. Nobody has ever questioned my commitment. My friends know I’m a person who highly value commitment. Probably they (who’ve been questioning my commitment) should try being a doctor once in a while and experience it themselves. Then, they will know how committed I am, a person who happens to be a young doctor, and STILL willing to be involved in IM and work my way to success.

I know that this is a business. For that matter, I think whenever a deal has been made, then that is a deal and should be fulfilled. In my current situation, it doesn’t work that way. I haven’t received what have been promised to me. I think that’s ridiculous!

In IM, you should be your own boss. I am my own boss. When somebody tries to take control over you, it’s a reason to reconsider (especially if a promise is, somehow, violated). For the record, I will not give up my career in medicine for any reason. I’ve been struggling for years to be a doctor. A lot of tears, sweat, and blood have been shed.

Being a doctor is what I’ve always wanted and I know I would not be just another doctor, I would not be a GOOD doctor, but I would be a GREAT doctor who treats patients with compassion.

All I want to say is that I am my own boss. Period.

My Hardest Obstacle in Learning Internet Marketing

My dearest netpreneur friends,

I am now finally back on track of getting online. For the past few weeks, I've been feeling a bit disturbed by internet marketing (IM). For a moment, I felt that IM is something that I need to put aside. I need to focus on my study. (Note : The picture enclosed was taken during tutorial break..Aspiring young doctors! Still managed to smile amidst our hectic schedule..).

On the other hand, I remember all the efforts I've made so far and it seems that the prospect of IM is too great to be ignored. I just can't do that. I can't stop now. I know it'll take hard work and persistent to be successful online. That's exactly what I'm going to do.

Honestly, this is the hardest obstacle that I've felt during the process of learning IM. When I'm busy and occupied with my study as a young doctor, even calls and short messages from people asking about IM can be really annoying. Especially if the person who send short messages tends to be demanding and just can't stop asking things.

I just couldn't get it, why people can be so insensitive to other people's life? I have another side in life where it doesn't involve IM and it happens that I am a young doctor who is responsible to help other people's ailing health. Why is it so hard for other people to understand? That is important, too.

After a couple of weeks, the "sickness" I felt towards IM gradually decreased. I guess I was just in a state of panic. The new responsibility as a young doctor is a bit overwhelming and I need to adjust things around it. It'll need some time to adapt. But, I'm sure I can make it.

Everything is possible. Nothing is impossible. It is I M possible. Internet Marketing possible. Internet Millionaire possible..hehe..

Offline Method : Is It A Disgrace For Internet Marketer?

Hello, everybody.
How's your weekend? I hope you're doing well. I just got back from a mini seminar on affiliate programs that I organized with my team. To make it easier, I'll name my team as my "Smart Team". We consist of three persons. The three of us are committed in learning internet marketing. Besides that, we also determine to share about internet marketing with others. That's why we organize mini seminars on various topics regarding internet marketing.

For those of you in Jakarta, Indonesia, I will keep you posted on our next events' schedule. (Note: for the time being, we only organize seminars in Jakarta. But, we're planning to go to other cities, as well. Will notify you on it). I'll try to post the schedule of upcoming event on my blog's sidebar. So, make sure that you keep checking on the new schedule. Next weekend, our Smart Team will hold another event. Further details will be uploaded later on.

Okay, that's for the schedule. Actually, there's something on my mind today. A friend said to me that internet marketing should be done online, and not supposed to be done offline. Well, internet is definitely an online method. But, it doesn't mean that we cannot communicate in an offline manner. For instance, you try to brand yourself as an internet marketer. Then, you create namecards that you give to other internet marketers in internet marketing seminars, such as Global Internet Summit. That is offline, right? Another example, my Smart Team organizes mini seminar. That's offline, too. There's nothing wrong with that.

The thing that I always write in this blog over and over is about having a and positive mindsetpositive attitude. Well, there's another complement to it : having an open mind. Be open-minded. Doing offline method for internet marketer does not make you less credible. In marketing, it will be better if you do any method available to build a solid network. A great network is your asset. The network can be your opt-in list or other internet marketers.

Today's conclusion: offline method is NOT a disgrace. Be open-minded to all possibilities of network building. Success is your right, indeed. But, in the process toward earning your success, you need other people along the way. You can either "meet" people online and also meet people offline. Again, be open-minded.

Added Blog Features

Hello my dear netpreneur friends,
it's been a while since my last posted article. As I have said previously, I just started my junior medical clerkship. For the past two weeks, getting online is a personal struggle. As a young doctor, it is mandatory for me to have 100% attendance. Plus after I finish doing skills lab practice, etc, I still have to review what I have learned that day and prepare myself for the next day.

It's totally different from my preclinical years when I only studied medical theories. Now, all those theories will have to be applied to REAL patients. Of course, it is my ethical and moral responsibilities to continue studying vigorously for the sake of my future patients. That's a whole different kind of responsibility. Definitely the kind I must not disregard whatsoever.

Well, enough about my personal struggle..Let's get back to internet marketing. As you can see, I have added some features to my blog. On the sidebar, there are some links of blog directories, such as technocrati. My blog is already listed to them. Afterwards, I am allowed to put the link to that directory. The link can be in the format of text (like I did with "Wartablog") or button (like "technocrati"). The blog directory usually provides the HTML tag that you can easily copy and paste to your blog template. Just as easy as that.

Other feature is a dictionary. You can see that I already included a link to Kamus.Net. If you have any difficulties in translating my articles (which is entirely in English) into Bahasa Indonesia, you can just click that link and voila! there's your online dictionary.

Another feature that I have found quite useful is shoutbox. You can visit oggix.com and create your own shoutbox. Just sign up, create your shoutbox, then copy-paste the HTML tag to your blog.

And last but not least, it is important to have your own counter. The use of it is to track how many visitors you have each day along with their details (countries, browser, IP, etc). You can find a free counter by searching it through search engines. I've tried two of them : shinystat.com and statcounter.com. Shinystat only allows you to make 1 free counter for each account (you can make another using another e-mail, I suppose). While statcounter allows you to have multiple counters in one account. So, if you have more than one blog, you can make 1 counter for each blog. It's easier to manage.

Oh, another feature that I added was marquee. It's like a scrolling bar where your text can be shown in rotation. You can adjust the movement, either upwards or downwards. I have tried it, but I don't know why it's not working properly. It's not rotating. So far, it only seems like an ordinary list of links. I haven't figured out what's wrong with it. Probably there's an error on my HTML code. I'll fix it later on.

The Big N.O.: Spoonfeeding..

it's been a while since I last posted an article. I've started a new role for the past few days. Now, I am officially entitled to have a bachelor degree in medicine. (Note : I enclosed my graduation picture..Nice..He..he..) This makes me as a young doctor in the process of medical clerkship.

This new role is very exciting, more or less as excited as I first learned about internet marketing. My new world of junior clerkship is somehow similar to internet marketing. One thing for sure, we cannot expect to be spoonfed.

If we want to learn something, we have to be active. Nobody's going to give us the solution as simple as turning the back of our hands. Even the world's famous gurus will only give us the guidelines. After that, it is all up to us. If we don't force yourself to practice, to do it on our own, we'll never have any progress.

The best scenario is to be active. Though you most probably have your own learning group or even your own private guru, the process will not run if you don't want to improve yourself.

The ultimate way to learn is to have discussions and brainstorming sessions. These will only be effective if you know what you're discussing about. Don't be so stressed out. There's no such thing as impossible, right? So, just make sure that you're always active in this process of learning internet marketing. Sooner or later, you'll get the big picture. The more you are active, the sooner you shall get the hang of it. Then, you can go all the way..

Hi, all!

How's your weekend? I'd like to greet "Happy Easter" to those who celebrate it. I hope you get to experience a fabulous Easter this year with your whole family.

I also experience a wonderful weekend. Why? I just earned my commission!! He..he..I checked my e-mail and found out that I am qualified to earn USD 93. Not bad at all for an IM newbie like myself.

Frankly speaking, just a few months ago, I didn't know what IM is all about. I even had some kind of skeptical thougths about it. But, I didn't want to jump into conclusions. So, I started to find more info about IM and tried to start learning about it. I finally concluded that IM has a really good prospect in the future and it is still manageable even for a busy person like me!

Now, after a few months of learning, I can see a shed of light at the end of the tunnel. I can see that there is an opportunity to earn money through IM, for sure! No doubt about it. It is important not to get too excited. We have to make sure that we're on the right path and learning from the right people.

Not all of IM resources out there are good. You have to be aware that there are some people who want to take advantage of this and they tend to cheat on you. For example, if you want to join an affiliate program, you have to investigate the profile of the merchant (how reputable), how good is the product, how they calculate your commission, how they pay it, etc. I am not saying that you have to be paranoid. All I'm saying is you have to be cautious. That's all..

So, again, happy easter! Let's continue our journey towards online success!

Cool Hang-out Places To Get Online

Are you enjoying your long Easter weekend? I’m currently enjoying my last days of freedom before I start my medical internship next Monday. I hope I can do well and eventually get my GP license in two years. Wish me luck, OK?

Yesterday, I went to Plaza Semanggi’s Starbucks with some of my IM friends. I rarely go online in public areas. I just found out that there are so many free hotspots in Jakarta! The two places I already visited were Dunkin Donuts at Taman Anggrek Mall and Starbucks at Plaza Semanggi.

By now you probably are asking yourselves whether you have to pay for the online access. Well, both of them are FREE. I know you all like freebies, don’t you? *grin* You still have to buy some drinks or snacks, though if you don’t want to get kicked out. For Plaza Semanggi area, all you have to do is detecting the wireless network and choose “Plangi Hotspot”. That’s the free network.

So, there you go. The two cool hang-out places for you to get online. Perhaps we could set up regular meetings there. That’s possible. If you happen to know more free hotspots area, just add comments to this article and share with the others. Cheers!

Oh, Happy Day!

Hello to all my dear aspiring netpreneur friends,

I hope you’re all progressing well with your IM projects. As for my projects, most are family projects since the four of us (Mom, Dad, I, and my brother) are now learning IM together. I am happy to learn that our web hosting account has just been created. From this point onwards, we can take further steps to actually launch our own web!

Work is still in progress. But, don’t worry. I’ll launch the web right here on my blog as soon as it is fully ready. You’ll be among those first persons to visit the web. I will still have to wait for the payment gateway validation, etc. So, it’ll take some time.

Well, that’s one of the things that had made my day. Another thing is a surprise visit to my blog from one of my IM gurus! I logged into my blog yesterday and found that few people have added comments. I checked them out immediately and I was very excited to see that Andy Hun kindly visited and added comments! (Hi, Andy! Thanks for dropping by!) It’s really nice to keep in touch with fellow netpreneurs, especially with your own guru. He..He..

To those who might have read my previous article, I mentioned that I first learned IM from a video tutorial made by Terence Tan and Andy Hun. Well, it’s true. I first watched the video in January 2007 and I really had no idea where to start. But then I watched the video again and again until I came to a point where I decided to try at least one of the things taught in it. This blog of mine is actually set while I’m watching the video tutorial on another window! Everything was set according to the tutorial. After that, I have tried to learn from other learning resources, as well as to enhance my skills.

What I’ve learned so far (and this can also be a great tip to those who are still don’t know where to start) is to take action! Whatever materials you’ve been struggling with (video tutorials, workbooks, newsletters, etc), you have to practice it as soon as you read or watch them. Don’t get carried on with the readings. You don’t need to finish all the readings then start practicing. You also don’t need to practice the materials in sequence. Just practice the things that you feel that you can execute at that very moment then let yourself progress from that point. The more your practice, the more you will understand. To tell you the truth, I didn’t even know how to blog at first. But, then I understand it more and more after I practice it.

I hope the tip will be useful for you. It’s an old tip, but it lasts for a reason: it WORKS!

Please Respect Intellectual Property

Hello, my fellow aspiring netpreneurs!

For today’s article I especially did a resources research on intellectual property. I did this on purpose to raise your awareness on how crucial an intellectual property is and why we need to respect it.

It started off by a real case that I recently involved in. As I wrote in my previously posted article, I attended Ewen Chia’s Autopilot Internet Income workshop. Well, it turned out that somebody among the participants had given out the username and password which were supposed to be for members only. It absolutely violated intellectual property or intellectual rights and had made others who didn’t commit this violation also tangled in this unpleasant situation.

This case has become a serious case that Ewen finally removed the members’ area site. There had been some actions taken by some participants. I and Mr. Christ Jusuf (Hello, Pak Christ) had invited some of our friends to gather in an informal meeting in order to resolve this. The resolution is currently in progress. (Note: If any member of autopilot-indo is reading this, please read the results of our discussions in our autopilot-indo mailing list or contact The Jubilee Network)

I am not going to elaborate on the case. Instead, I will share some information I acquired about intellectual property (IP). In law, intellectual property (IP) is an umbrella term for various legal entitlements which attach to certain names, written and recorded media, and inventions. The holders of these legal entitlements are generally entitled to exercise various exclusive rights in relation to the subject matter of the IP. The term intellectual property reflects the idea that this subject matter is the product of the mind or the intellect, though the term is a matter of some controversy.

Intellectual property laws confer a bundle of exclusive rights in relation to the particular form or manner in which ideas or information are expressed or manifested, and not in relation to the ideas or concepts themselves. The term "intellectual property" denotes the specific legal rights which authors, inventors and other IP holders may hold and exercise, and not the intellectual work itself.

Intellectual property laws are designed to protect different forms of subject matter, although in some cases there is a degree of overlap, such as copyright, patent, invention, trademark, businesses, industrial design right, and trade secret.

For more information, you can always go to search engines and look up the word “intellectual property”. I have also provided the links for the important words above for you to read further on Wikipedia. Well, it wouldn’t be necessary for me to go deeper on the subject through this article. The sole purpose of this article is, again, to raise your awareness about intellectual property and, hopefully, you will be encouraged to respect it.

Nobody can control this but YOU. So, if you currently have a plan to somehow violate someone’s intellectual property by doing unauthorized copying of any kind, please think it over. You will be acting against the law, that’s for sure. But, the most devastating part is that you will “abuse” those who own the specific intellectual property. Just imagine, how would you feel if you’re in his/her shoes?

How are you today? I hope you're doing well and making progress every day. People have been asking me on how I set up this blog. Well, personally, I read some books and also learned from a video tutorial by Terence Tan and Andy Hun.

For Indonesian resources, I read the books written by Fany Ariasari ("Pernak-Pernik Blog:Cantik, Atraktif, Fungsional") and Kukuh Prakoso ("Nge-Blog!? So what gitu loh.."). I also visited other people's blogs and learn from their blogs. There are lots of blog portals. In Indonesia, most of bloggers are familiar with WartaBlog.com. You can submit your blog to WartaBlog and get your link shown on WartaBlog's index page.

To make it easier for you, I have tried to look for a tutorial video on YouTube. I found one that is quite simple to follow. It's a video on how to setup a blog at blogger.com, like mine that you're reading at the moment. Enjoy the video and go create your own blog!

Nothing Is Impossible

My dear aspiring netpreneur friends,

I believe you've heard people saying that only 5% of people struggling in IM world will eventually succeed. Statistically, that's a very small portion. I know that some of you may feel discouraged after hearing that statement. Well, here's a story to inspire you.

Have you ever heard about Ladan Lashkari? She's an internet marketer. A young internet marketer. By now, you probably think, it's not unusual. Well, I'll tell you the thing that makes her unusual. She lives in IRAN where there are political, economical, and religious obstacles that make it difficult for anyone to be a successful internet marketer, and in most cases even more difficult for a woman to do so.

She had so many obstacles, such as

language barrier (she wasn't born in an English-speaking family)
disbelief from her surroundings
cultural restrictions
can't get a credit card
can't open a PayPal account
can't get a merchant account
can't have a bank account in US dollars
can't have any bank account that accepts wire transfers
can't cash any USD checks
can't travel (so, she can't attend IM seminars)
the world negative views toward Iranians

Now, let us ask ourselves these questions...

Do I have a credit card?
Do I have a PayPal account?
Can I open a US bank account?
Can I receive US checks?
Do I have the freedom to travel?
Could I go to an internet marketing seminar?
Am I fluent in English?

If you have at least ONE "yes" answer for those questions, then you are already starting one step ahead of Ladan.

Do you get what I'm trying to say to you here? I'm saying that if Ladan can do it, with sooo many obstacles she faced, then you absolutely can do it, too! Don't be discouraged. There's nothing that can hold you down. Our success will be achieved through a process. Just enjoy the process and focus.The only obstacle that you may find is yourself. So, just be positive. We CAN succeed and there's no limit to it.

The Forgotten Asset

Hello, fellow netpreneurs.

Today I’m going to talk about a very important subject that most people taken for granted .That subject is FRIENDSHIP. In my earlier post, I wrote that it is important to mind your attitude online and offline. This links to a specific matter of friendship and action-reaction principle. People will react to the way they are being treated (an action). The reaction depends on the action made upon them, either good or bad.

Let’s take a look at a real life example. I attended a workshop and met so many new aspiring netpreneur friends. I was delighted to have the chance in making new network of friends who happen to have the same desire, which is to succeed online. Having the same goal or desire is a good start to build a friendship.

So, there I was, trying to get to know as many people as I could. I introduced myself and have quality chats with them personally. At the end of each conversation, I was also given their data so that we can keep in touch later on. I kept a list for myself and plan to build a mailing list where we can continue discussing about IM. I also took notes on my new friends’ backgrounds, such as current jobs, school, etc. These basic data will be required to get to know them further in the future and, hopefully, build a long lasting friendship in order to support each other. I am honored that they were willing to trust me and give me their data.

At the end of the workshop, an annoying incident happened. One of the participants asked for my list. I hesitated at first, but I eventually gave it to him. Then, to my shock, he literally took a picture of my list using his digicam. I was instantly annoyed, but I didn’t say anything. I had a gut feeling that this particular guy is not to be trusted. From my earlier chat with him, he tried to be “extra-friendly”. Then, I know what his agenda really is.

I know that we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Everyone knows that. But, in initiating a friendship, first impression is important. My first impression of this guy is he’s not trustworthy. I prefer not to make friends to people who already tried to take advantage of me from the initial encounter. Friendship should start from sincere hearts and the will to support each other, not the motive of taking advantage of others. Friendship is a mutual relationship. That’s for sure.

Some of you who read the story I just wrote above may think I was just being selfish. Well, if you think that way, you get the completely wrong idea. The reason why I was so annoyed is that he “steals” the data of people who have TRUSTED me to be their friends. I didn’t collect the data and leave them. I really had quality conversations with each and every one of them.

My purpose is solely to build a friendship towards these people. I felt like I have somehow betrayed them by not being able to refuse in giving the data to a third party. To me, it’s NOT merely a list with a bunch of names, mobile numbers, and e-mail addresses. They are my friends, the REAL people that I had encountered and started to build a friendship with. I think this is the part which that guy doesn’t comprehend. He is the perfect example of those who forgot that friendship is an asset which works mutually. Well, it’s useless now to talk about it. It already happened. I just hope that the data taken by him is not going to be misused for negative purposes.

As you can see, I truly cherish friendship and consider it as real asset. I learned this from my earlier life experience. I’ve been involved in an organization called The Asian Medical Students’ Association for more than four years now. I really found my potential after I joined AMSA. And guess who helped me find my hidden potential? Yup, my FRIENDS!

A friend told me about AMSA, and recommended me to join. After I joined, I immediately knew that this is the right place for me. I became the representative for my university, then became the Regional Chairperson for Indonesia the next year, and the candidate for Overall Chairperson of AMSA International the following year. So many achievements! I met so many inspiring people in AMSA that have helped me to be the person that I am now. I wouldn’t realize that I have that kind of potential if my friend didn’t share the information and ask me to join. The bottom line is I succeed because of the friendship I built. This also applies in ANY field in our lives. So, believe me. I know what I’m talking about.

The conclusion is: view your friendship as an asset. Build a good relationship with everyone. Always be sincere to others and treat people the way you want to be treated.

Ready For Business!

Hello, everybody!
I am so thrilled today! Do you want to know why? It is because today, for the first time since I started to learn about internet marketing, I feel that I am ready and well-equipped to start my own business.

You must be thinking, "Oh oh, Olly is going cuckoo! She's stressed with all these overload of info and struggle on the internet!" No..No..I'm not going cuckoo, mad, psycho, or anything even close to those kind of things. I actually in a state of joy..Why? Because I attended Ewen Chia's Autopilot Internet Income today!

Ewen taught me a lot of things..Now, I can see the ray of light ahead of me. Now I know how to do the stuffs that I once thought would be so complicated. In fact, it's not that complicated! Thanks to my dear guru, Ewen Chia, now I know how to build opt-in list, build my own website, set up an autoresponder, and he even gave me all the tools needed to get started right away (lifetime hosting and autoresponder included!). WOW! This is such a great jumpstart! All I do from now on is to take real action and put my ideas into reality..

The other thing that excites me is that I have the chance to meet more fellow netpreneurs. I met a whole lot of new friends today. (Hello to all my new friends!). I do hope that we can continue our friendship and communication afterwards. We could set up a mailing list and also meet in chatrooms. This would be FUN, FUN, FUN!

I would also like to thank Mrs. Sofia Koswara who actually organized this whole event. This event is so amazing. I hope Jubilee Network will hold more similar events. Probably my skills would be a bit more advanced by then and would also enable me to also help out in your upcoming events with more aspiring newbie netpreneurs. :-)

Let's start this week with something positive. Do you remember my last posted article (Mind Your Attitude) ?I wrote about the importance of having a positive attitude, online and offline. Stephen Pierce landed with a large bump onto the Internet marketing map when his book "The Whole Truth" was launched. He specialized in applying direct marketing strategies to the Internet marketing arena. He wrote a lot of inspiring books. Particularly in "Secrets To Creating Wealth", he tells us that wealth is our birthright. Do you ever think of that before?

Stephen shows us exactly what it takes to claim the personal and financial success that should be rightfully ours. His story will inspire and motivate us. His wealth building strategies have made him rich and they can work for us, too! What I love most in his "Secrets To Creating Wealth" book is the part when he says that everybody is destined to be successful, but during the process to achieve the success, we are influenced by a lot of things (good or bad) that in return will also influence the result (Third Influence). So, if you want to be successful, you have to choose GOOD things as your Third Influence. One of them is a positive attitude.

I am very delighted to read this book. You can also get it and read it yourself. Probably you can buy it online. I'm not quite sure about that, though. You can search it through search engines. My dad bought this book when he attended Global Internet Summit (GIS) in Jakarta last November 2006. There will be another GIS in April 2007, also in Jakarta. Mind Your Attitude

My dear netpreneur friends,
I recently found that internet marketing (IM) world is not all about online interaction. Most of the interactions are being done online, that is true. But, do not forget that it is also critical to have an offline interaction, either networking between fellow netpreneurs or communicating with our clients and customers.
Even though internet has made a revolution on how human beings interact with each other, it will never change the true need and value of actual human interaction which we do in our offline world each and every day. Therefore, it is prominent to mind your attitude in a positive way online and offline.
Doing an IM business does not mean that you can do all of the things on your own. You still need other people, no matter they are also involved in IM business or simply customers. If you build a website, you need traffic and traffic means other people, right? If you feel you cannot make a good content, or sales copy, most probably you will outsource it to other people. If you do not have the tools like auto responder, etc, you will need to buy it from other netpreneur. If you do not know how to use the auto responder, you will have the need to ask questions or even coaching from other netpreneur. The lists go on...
What I am trying to say here is that we need to be polite to everyone offline and online. Fellow netpreneurs whom with you interact may probably be really successful in the future, right? If you build friendship with them, then you will have the privilege to learn from them as well, as long as you mind your attitude towards them during the friendship (read: always be polite to them). The same thing goes to you. You also can be extremely successful one day. That is not merely a dream. That dream can really come true, if relentless effort is involved PLUS a positive attitude is attached.
As a newbie in IM business, I have received so many offers, invitations, etc to attend IM events through e-mails, text messages (SMS) or even phone calls. Sometimes I can attend, sometimes not. Sometimes I am interested, sometimes not. Regardless of all that, I maintain a positive attitude towards those fellow netpreneurs who sent me their seminar or IM invitations, promotions, etc. Why? It is because I truly cherish and respect the value of having good relationship with other netpreneurs. Even if I am not interested or cannot attend events, I still reply and say thank you. This is because I appreciate the goodwill of my friends to share information with me.
A senior netpreneur once said that IM business is not for everybody. It is not a "one size fits all" thing. It is only suitable for those who have big dreams, real efforts, and most importantly positive attitude. Another senior netpreneur said that statistically only 5% of those involved in IM will succeed. So, now you decide. Do you want to be among that 5% of netpreneurs?
Yesterday, I shared info through text messages to fellow netpreneurs about some seminars. Personally, I viewed that those seminars' topics are interesting and useful. That's why I wanted to share the info in the first place. To my surprise, someone replied and actually used the B***S**T word. Well, it is a pity to learn the fact there is one of my fellow netpreneurs who does not have a positive attitude. No matter how impolite he replied, I still managed to say thank you for his "kind" reply and wish him good luck. :-)
My message of the day: please mind your attitude and keep it positive!

The Joy of Internet Marketing

My dear netpreneur friends,

It’s been a while since I started this blog in January and I’ve been receiving quite a response from you already. I have only been introduced to internet marketing for a few months and still in progress to learn and learn and learn. Despite the fact of still being an amateur, to my amazement, I really feel the joy and excitement in learning internet marketing.

Do you know what I enjoy the most in internet marketing? Well, let me share it with you. Since I’ve been actively involved in this field, I receive e-mails, comments, instant messages (via Yahoo Messenger), and even phone calls from people who are interested in internet marketing from all over the world! I was a bit shocked at first, since all of my “new friends” (so far) are older than me. He..he..But, it’s OK. It’s an exciting way to build a network with so many new people from various backgrounds. Somehow my interaction with my new friends is enhancing my so-called people skills. I LOVE IT!

The other thing that amazed me is the worldwide power of internet. As you probably noticed, I use counter facility in all my blogs (yup! I have other blogs with various topics. You can also visit Mesotherapy Corner and Blogging for Dollars). From the compiled data, I could see the number of people who have visited my blogs, which countries they are from, etc. It turned out that the people who read my blogs came from around the world, even from countries I am not familiar of! How great is that!

Well, I know that most of you have that vision of earning a lot of money through the internet and all that. I can understand that. I also have the same desire. As I said, process is needed to achieve that specific goal, and the process itself certainly takes time. So, my advice is to try to enjoy the process and be positive in everything you do during this process. I’m sure that this positive mindset and attitude toward internet marketing will help a lot in achieving your goals. It keeps your focus, no matter how many and how hard the obstacles that you may find in the future. As for myself, I am enjoying the excitement of meeting new friends from various backgrounds. That really made my day.

To promote your blog is not an easy task if you don't know how to do it. Every blogger should know how to market and advertise their blog in the internet. Below are several tips any new bloggers can use to help them advertise and promote their blogs online.

1. Announce your blog at forums you currently use/participate in. Using your signature carrying your blog, it is a good idea to have your link in forums related to your blog.

2. Place informative responses in the "comments" box of other highly trafficked blogs in your field of business. Make comments to any blogs you are interested with your links place after your name.

3. Once you have 10 to 15 posts on your blog, announce it with a press release. Register in any program sites for free articles and write your own press release about your blog.

4. Invite other editors/writers or webmasters to write on your blog as co-editors. Make sure you allow them to include their "resource box" at the bottom of each post and set up an "about our editors" page.

5. Ping your blog after every post at Ping-O-Matic and/or Pingoat

6. Place your blog on all major search engine. Type add url on your target Search Engine and enter your url address to be indexed.

7. For fast inclusion into yahoo, get yourself a "my yahoo" page - http://my.yahoo.com and place your rss feed on that page.

8. Place a blogroll in your blog using blogrolling.com

Make Your Blog More Interesting!

I browsed the internet and stumbled upon these tips to make your blog more interesting. I haven't applied all of it, but I did apply a few of them already. It works!

Read on!

1. Put photos on your blog
Like an advertisement, you can make your blog speak with photos you upload to add interest to your readers.

2. You can add video clips
Try to embed code using your myspace.com account.

3. Syndicate your contents
It is important because some readers want a simple and easy format so it is wise to install it too.
You can use the more popular RSS format at feedbutton.com, the one button rss feed to syndicate your blog.

5. Provide space for your readers to give you feedback by checking your blog setting and modify this to allow posts. Of course, leave a reminder, that they are free to post contrary comments as long as they do it in a polite and considerate manner.

6. If you use WordPress, a server-installed, open-source (free) state-of-the-art semantic personal publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability, try their email notification plug-in. This plug-in notifies your subscribers of your blog posts through email.

7. Trackback is a great blog feature, for it allows for a continuing conversation between you and bloggers of similarly themed blogs. When you comment on another blog posting in your blog instead of in that blog's comments page, the trackback link connects these posts so the thread isn’t lost.

8. Invite other blogger to post to your blog

All of these tips, software or plug-ins will help you illustrate your point in a fun and interesting way. But you should remember content is king on the net (though this statement is not entirely true in some cases). These devices are not substitutes for great content, which is what really what drives traffic to your blog.

My First Cent From Google AdSense

Dear friends,
I checked my Google AdSense a few days ago. I was quite happy to find that the total earnings is no longer $0.00. I earn my first AdSense cent!

I know this is not a huge amount of money. But,
this is a start. Everything begins with a single step, right? You cannot achieve your goal, whatever that is, if you don't take the first step. Even a million dollar would not be a million dollar if you lost one cent.

I am also aware that there are a lot of new internet marketers out there, just like myself, who really want to earn money from their internet business. Everybody wants to earn money. But, the thing is, whatever you do in order to earn money, you need to work your way to it. You have to EARN it.

There is no such thing as a get-rich-quick scheme. Even in the internet business, it takes time to do the research, the promotion, etc. It takes time to brand yourself. It takes hardwork to earn your success. It doesn't mean that to be successful in internet marketing is impossible. It is POSSIBLE. If there are already people out there who are successful in internet marketing, then you can also be successful just like them, or even more successful than them. But, to achieve that you must be persistent. Just work hard and enjoy the process.

I am not saying this as an expert or anything. I am also a newbie in this area. I just want to remind my aspiring netpreneur friends to keep your focus and be persistent to achieve your online success, no matter how many obstacles and confusion you may be facing at the moment.

NEVER let other people tell you that you cannot be successful. Everything is possible. You can learn everything. You just have to learn it and PRACTICE it relentlessly.

Content is "The King"

You've probably aware that content is important. In most cases, content is absolutely "The King." Relevant information is what drives the internet. Good content attracts visitors. And if you have content that is fresh every day, visitors will come back again and again.

I found this web called Fresh Content. They offer free, self-updating headlines that you can quickly plug into your site and forget about forever. Their system creates three fresh stories every day (sometimes more). So you can finally stop scrambling for quality content. It's all taken care of.

Don't get the wrong idea here. I'm not saying that using Fresh Content's service is bad. I think it's a very useful tool. Using it or not totally depends on what you think your site needs and the initial motive of building your site/blog itself.

I'd like to share another info with you today. I attended another seminar on January 27, 2007. The topic was "The Super Affiliate Program Road Map" presented by Yeo KeeHuat. It was a cool thing to learn! Basically, he shared his experiences in internet marketing on how to start the business without having our own product. He is currently earning his money from the internet only by being an affiliate marketer!

Who is Yeo KeeHuat? He's a well-known full-time internet marketer trainer in Asia. He has been actively involved in internet arena since 2000 and his income has sky-rocketed since 2004 after mastering the skills and techniques in generating big money from the internet marketing. Previously, he was just like any of us struggling days and nights trying to figure out how to earn tons of money while sleeping. He has been coached by many of world renowned internet marketing gurus. That way, he can show us the shortcut to his learning path. Later, I will share some of his tips from the seminar.

Firstly, we have to understand what affiliate marketing is. Actually, it is something that most of you are familiar with. Yup! It's the classic way of doing business. You sell someone else's products and if you get sales or generate leads/actions, then you'll receive commissions! Due to our updated technology, now we can do that particular method online through the internet. Isn't that wonderful? It saves a lot of time & energy! An example of a successful affiliate is eBay affiliate. You know eBay, right?

Well, here are some basic things you need to know :
An affiliate marketer (affiliate/associates/program partners) is the person who sells other people's products.

An affiliate merchant is the person who owns the products.

An affiliate program is the program set up by the merchant where you can sign-up and be one of his/her affiliate marketer.

An affiliate link is a URL link given by the merchant for you to promote online and generate people to visit and do actions (filling in forms, buy products, etc). The link is unique for each affiliate marketer, so that the merchant knows exactly who made the sales.

Hello again, friends!
How's your journey of learning internet marketing so far? I do hope that you're having as much fun as I am now. This internet marketing thing is really interesting!

Well, I can say that I'm doing quite a progress here. At the moment, I'm concentrating on making my ideas more specific and do surveys about it (target market, etc). That way, there will be less chance for my strategy to fail by the time I decide to launch my web.

Okay, now it's time to share some infos. This is what I've managed to comprehend during the last few days..Internet marketing is NOT a quick-scheme to be rich..No, it's not..
Just like other businesses, it needs your focus. To be successful, either online or offline, needs a process and process takes time. So, you better keep in mind that if you really want to be successful online, then you have to be patience and keep your focus. Be consistent!

I attended a seminar on internet marketing today. Anne Ahira, Indonesia's best internet marketer, was the speaker. She's been a hit for the last few years and inspired a lot of people to have the similar kind of success. Now, she has her own training center called Asian Brain. 1. Think of ideas. You can simply start by your hobbies, first. Write them down. Be specific.

2. Do a research about the topic concerning the target market, the potential competitor (other people's websites), and actually how many people are searching for it through the internet.

3. Gather your contents to put up in your web. The contents may be consisted of articles, photos, videos, and audios.

4. Find an affiliate program that suits your business idea. You can do this via search engine. For example you want to sell softwares, then you should type "software+affiliate program".
By the way, affiliate program means that you are selling other people's products and get paid for commisions once you can sell the products. It is much easier than if you have to build up your own products.

5. Make a website and buy a domain

6. Buy a hosting service and get your website online !

7. Promote your website. Try to get as much traffic to your web as possible.

That's what I can share with you today. Not really detailed. But, at least that's the big picture that you supposed to have in mind about internet marketing.

Thanks for visiting my blog. I set up this blog in order to have a discussion forum on internet marketing. So, those of you who are interested in the topic are free to post comments on this blog. I really hope this blog can be a comfortable space to share our knowledge and experience during the journey to achieve our online success.

Okay, let's start with my personal story. Firstly, don't get the wrong idea here. I am NOT (yet) an expert on this internet marketing issue. I am a newbie. This blog will actually be the silent-witness of my journey in learning internet marketing and achieving my online success. That's why I call this blog "My Smart Online Biz" because that's exactly what I want to have someday. A smart online business.

Well, it all started when I sat down and tried to think of my own life. I'm now 22 going on 23 years old and I just realized that I don't even have my own savings! Can you believe that? My parents have always fulfilled my every need, so I never worried about my financials. But, now, at my age, I REALLY have to think of something to have my own income!! That's when I heard about internet marketing from my dad.

I have always wanted to earn my own money. The thing is I don't have any money to start with and even if I have a little money to start, I don't have the time to really make the effort. I'm just way too occupied with my study (note: I am a dedicated and determined medical student). When I found out about internet marketing, suddenly it hit me. This is IT! This is my Oprah-AHA-moment! This business is executable and possible, even for a busy person like me.

So, here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to learn about internet marketing and how to actually run this business online. While I do that, I'll make sure to share my experience with you through this blog. We'll do it together. I learn something and you can learn something, too! Isn't that fun? :-)
